Learning with Virtual Agents: Competition and Cooperation in AMICO
نویسندگان
چکیده
This paper deals with the design and implementation of AMICO1 , a prototype to enhance mathematics learning by interactions between a student (or a dyad) and virtual agents (several co-learner companions and a mathematician). This work is part of a multidisciplinary project, the project LINGOT that aims to give math teachers tools to improve their teaching. We first present the foundations of the project: the pedagogical assumptions, the design approach and the different kinds of virtual agents we propose. Then we present our virtual companions who allow students and teachers to use different learning and teaching strategies. They can play several characters: more or less trouble maker, more or less correct in their answers, more or less algebra speakers. In AMICO we propose two scenarios of interactions between students and virtual agents: competition and cooperation. We sketch the software architecture we propose in order to implement a simple authoring tool. Teachers specify problems, figures, the lists of common answers for students and companions. Then AMICO generates automatically and dynamically the dialogues between students and companions according to the companions’ characters and students’ answers. First user testing are encouraging and give perspectives.

Background & Purpose: The aim of this study was to explain the lived experiences of educators of learning disorder centers from the challenges of changing face-to-face education to virtual education during the outbreak of Corona virus. Method: Participants in this study were learning disorder educators working in learning disorder centers in Tehran in the academic year 1401-1400. The instru...
متن کاملMultiagent cooperation and competition with deep reinforcement learning
Evolution of cooperation and competition can appear when multiple adaptive agents share a biological, social, or technological niche. In the present work we study how cooperation and competition emerge between autonomous agents that learn by reinforcement while using only their raw visual input as the state representation. In particular, we extend the Deep Q-Learning framework to multiagent env...
متن کاملOn Anthropomorphism in Technology-Enhanced Language Learning: Does Modality Matter in Agent-Based Multimedia Instruction on L2 Idioms?
The present study aimed to satisfy a twofold purpose: On the one hand, it sought to verify the postulation that agent-based instruction could offer a compromise approach to teaching L2 idioms where form and meaning would be equally emphasized during instruction. Given that anthropomorphism has not been much under scrutiny, this research, on the other hand, sought to ascertain whether learning a...
متن کاملMulti-objective Modeling Based on Competition Airlines Cooperation by Game Theory and Sustainable Development Approach
In each time period, the demand of passengers for each route are finite and airlines compete for earning more profits. The complex competition among airlines causes problems, such as complicating flight planning and increasing empty seats for some routes. These problems increase air pollution and fuel consumption. To solve these problems, this research studies the cooperation of the airlines wi...
متن کاملThe Effect of Training in Virtual Environment on Nursing Students Attitudes toward Virtual Learning and its Relationship with Learning Style
Introduction: It is impossible to be successful in virtual training unless we consider individuals’ viewpoints toward it. Despite this fact, less attention has been paid to students’ attitudes at the end of a virtual course in the published studies. This study investigates the effect of a virtual training course on the students` attitudes toward virtual education and its relationship with learn...
